CILIFO celebra el Día Nacional de España

12.10.2020. El Día Nacional de España se celebra cada año el 12 de octubre y simboliza la efeméride histórica en la que España, a punto de concluir un proceso de construcción del Estado inicia un período de proyección lingüística y cultural más allá de los límites europeos. El Centro Ibérico para la Investigación y Lucha contra Incendios Forestales (CILIFO) lo celebra apostando por un espacio de cooperación transfronterizo de la Eurorregión Alentejo-Algarve-Andalucía con el impulso de medidas en la prevención y extinción de incendios forestales en un espacio de cooperación. Con una duración de tres años (2019 a 2021), CILIFO persigue, a través de los resultados previstos en sus actividades, constituirse como un Centro permanente para el impulso y desarrollo de la formación, la sensibilización, el desarrollo y la innovación, y la cooperación interregional en la lucha contra incendios forestales. Sus objetivos son: Reforzar y aunar la cooperación, los procedimientos de trabajo y la formación entre los dispositivos de Prevención y Extinción de Incendios Forestales en el área de cooperación. Promover la creación de empleo duradero y de calidad en la zona; reducir el coste económico de los incendios creando economía rural ligada al paisaje. Mejorar la capacidad de respuesta ante los incendios forestales de las administraciones y autoridades implicadas en la lucha contra los mismos en las tres regiones participantes. CILIFO se está desarrollando gracias a la colaboración de un partenariado público-privado compuesto por organismos públicos de investigación, entidades de interés público sin ánimo de lucro, y administraciones públicas; y todos con el objetivo común sobre la lucha contra los incendios forestales.

CILIFO celebrates Spain’s National Day

Spain’s National Day is celebrated every year on 12 October and symbolises the historic event in which Spain, on the verge of completing a process of state-building, begins a period of linguistic and cultural projection beyond European borders. The Iberian Centre for Research and the Fight against Forest Fires (CILIFO) is celebrating it by committing itself to a cross-border cooperation area of the Euroregion Alentejo-Algarve-Andalusia by promoting measures in the prevention and extinction of forest fires in an area of cooperation. With a duration of three years (2019 to 2021), CILIFO aims, through the results of its activities, to become a permanent centre for the promotion and development of training, awareness, development and innovation, and inter-regional cooperation in the fight against forest fires. Its objectives are: To strengthen and unite cooperation, working procedures and training between the Forest Fire Prevention and Extinction mechanisms in the area of cooperation. To promote the creation of lasting and quality employment in the area; to reduce the economic cost of fires by creating a rural economy linked to the landscape. To improve the response capacity to forest fires of the administrations and authorities involved in fighting them in the three participating regions. CILIFO is being developed thanks to the collaboration of a public-private partnership composed of public research bodies, non-profit-making public interest entities and public administrations, all with the common objective of fighting forest fires.

El Proyecto CILIFO prepara el último evento sobre soluciones innovadoras en incendios forestales en el marco de la #EUGreenWeek y la #EURegionsWeek

El próximo miércoles 21 de octubre de 2020, de 17:00h a 19:00h (CEST), el Centro Ibérico para la Investigación y Lucha contra Incendios Forestales (CILIFO) celebra el cuarto y último evento deslocalizado oficial en el marco de la #EUGreenWeek, y la #EURegionsWeek, una iniciativa de la Fundación Finnova, entidad beneficiara del Proyecto INTERREG-CILIFO, en colaboración con la Universidad de Córdoba (entidad beneficiaria del proyecto) y la Diputación de Córdoba. La Semana Europea de las Regiones y Ciudades (#EURegionsWeek) es un evento anual de cuatro días durante el cual las ciudades y regiones muestran su capacidad para crear crecimiento y empleo, implementar la política de cohesión de la Unión Europea y demostrar la importancia del nivel local y regional para una buena gobernanza europea. La Semana Verde Europea (#EUGreenWeek), organizada por la Comisión Europea, hará hincapié en la contribución que la biodiversidad puede suponer para la sociedad y la economía, y en el papel que puede desempeñar para apoyar y estimular la recuperación en el mundo después de la pandemia, creando empleo y desarrollo sostenible. El evento, planteado para el próximo 21 de octubre, en Córdoba de manera semipresencial – virtual, se trata de un seminario sobre fuentes financieras comunitarias para proyectos con soluciones innovadoras en prevención, extinción de incendios forestales y protección de la biodiversidad. Durante la jornada se expondrán oportunidades financieras para proyectos ambientales en el campo de los incendios forestales, economía circular, protección, restauración y gestión de la biodiversidad y promoción de soluciones innovadoras para ayudar a mitigar y adaptarse al cambio climático. The CILIFO Project is preparing an event on innovative solutions in forest fires within the framework of #EUGreenWeek and #EURegionsWeek

Next Wednesday, September 21, 2020, from 11:00h to 13:00h (CEST), the Iberian Centre for Research and the Fight against Forest Fires (CILIFO) will hold the fourth and last official delocalised event within the framework of #EUGreenWeek, and #RegionsWeek, an initiative of the Finnova Foundation, an entity that will benefit from the INTERREG-CILIFO Project, in collaboration with the University of Cordoba (the project’s beneficiary entity) and the Provincial Council of Cordoba. The European Week of Regions and Cities (#EURegionsWeek) is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement EU cohesion policy and demonstrate the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance. European Green Week (#EUGreenWeek), organised by the European Commission, will focus on nature and biodiversity this year. The Finnova Foundation, which will benefit from the INTERREG-CILIFO project, is preparing the third offshoring event to be part of a week that will act as a milestone on the way to the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The event, planned for 19 October in Cordoba as a semi-virtual event, is a seminar on community financial sources for projects with innovative solutions in prevention, extinction of forest fires and protection of biodiversity. During the seminar, financial opportunities will be presented for environmental projects in the field of forest fires, circular economy, protection, restoration and management of biodiversity and promoting innovative solutions to help mitigate and adapt to climate change. 08.10.2020. La Semana Verde Europea (#EUGreenWeek), organizada por la Comisión Europea, se centrará este año en la naturaleza y la biodiversidad. La Fundación Finnova, entidad beneficiara del Proyecto INTERREG-CILIFO, está preparando el tercer evento deslocalizado para formar parte de una semana que actuará como un hito en el camino hacia la Conferencia de las Partes (COP 15) del Convenio sobre la Diversidad Biológica. Unmanned aerial vehicle applications for forest fire fighting and prevention, the third CILIFO event in #EUGreenWeek

08.10.2020. European Green Week (#EUGreenWeek), organised by the European Commission, will focus on nature and biodiversity this year. The Finnova Foundation, which will benefit from the INTERREG-CILIFO project, is preparing the third offshoring event to be part of a week that will act as a milestone on the way to the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The European Commission has decided that the EU Green Week conference will take place this year in the autumn, from 20 to 22 October, with associated events taking place from 14 September to 23 October. On Monday, 19 October 2020, from 17:00 to 19:00 (CEST), the Iberian Centre for Research and the Fight against Forest Fires (CILIFO) is holding the third official off-site event as part of #EUGreenWeek – another is planned in Córdoba – an initiative of the Finnova Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Cadiz (the entities benefiting from the CILIFO project). La Fundación Finnova, entidad beneficiara del Proyecto INTERREG-CILIFO preparó un evento deslocalizado para formar parte de una semana que actuará como un hito en el camino hacia la Conferencia de las Partes (COP 15) del Convenio sobre la Diversidad Biológica. El pasado lunes, 28 de septiembre de 2020, el Centro Ibérico para la Investigación y Lucha contra Incendios Forestales (CILIFO) celebró el segundo evento del Proyecto CILIFO en el marco de la #EUGreenWeek – tiene previstos dos eventos más en Cádiz y Córdoba -, en colaboración con GoHub, es el hub de open innovation de Global Omnium. El encargado de abrir el evento fue Juan Sánchez Ruiz, director del Centro Operativo Regional (INFOCA) de la Consejería de Agricultura, Ganadería, Pesca y Desarrollo Sostenible de la Junta de Andalucía, quien recalcó la importancia del refuerzo de infraestructuras de uso conjunto para luchar contra los incendios forestales. El segundo evento de CILIFO en la Semana Verde contó también con la participación del vicepresidente de la Comisión de Medio Ambiente, Salud Pública y Seguridad Alimentaria y Eurodiputado en el Parlamento Europeo, César Luena, el cual habló sobre el proyecto que van a presentar ante la Comisión Europea para combatir los incendios forestales y preservar la biodiversidad. Entre las medidas expuestas por Luena se encuentran la recuperación de las zonas afectadas por los incendios, la protección de los ecosistemas de agua dulce, por ejemplo la restauración de ríos, una normativa en el marco de aguas para evitar desastres ecológicos, la protección legal de los suelos,  un plan específico para abordar la desertificación, o una política forestal europea. El objetivo es crear un plan de acción conjunta para combatir el cambio climático y la biodiversidad. El primer bloque sobre prevención, extinción de incendios forestales y protección a la biodiversidad contó con la participación desde el ámbito académico de Ana Lourido, de la Universidad de Évora para hablar sobre la investigación y el combate de los incendios forestales: “tenemos una oportunidad para dar un salto cualitativo y cuantitativo en la lucha contra los incendios forestales y así avanzar en la investigación”. Posteriormente intervino Javier Madrigal Olmo, científico titular del laboratorio de incendios forestales del Centro de Investigación Forestal del INIA, para hablar sobre la vulnerabilidad a incendios forestales y de cómo la ciencia y la tecnología pueden ayudar a la prevención. Por su parte, Javier Cañas Andreu, director de Proyectos de Innovación en EIT Climate-KIC, señaló cómo el aumento de las temperaturas, las pocas precipitaciones y las consecuentes sequías son varias de las causas que provocan incendios forestales en Andalucía. La temática del segundo bloque fue de financiación y emprendimiento. María Gil Cabrera¸ directora de Go Hub Andalucía y Juan Viesca, director de Fondos Europeos en la Fundación Finnova, hablaron sobre financiación de la Unión Europea en proyectos innovadores en el sector de incendios. Cabe resaltar la convocatoria European Green Deal para combatir el cambio climático y hacer que Europa sea neutral frente al clima para 2050. Adrián Noheda, director del Firefighting Open Innovation Lab de CILIFO, y David Páez Rodríguez, director de Desarrollo de Negocio de la Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía, hablaron sobre oportunidades de emprendimiento en zonas forestales protegidas. Para finalizar el evento, Alejandro García Hernández, subdirector COR del Plan INFOCA (Dirección General de Gestión del Medio Natural y Espacios Protegidos de la Junta de Andalucía) presentó el Proyecto FIREPOCTEP y Gustavo Viera Ruiz de GESPLAN habló sobre los casos de éxito en la gestión de incendios forestales. RETOS EN COMÚN – OBJETIVOS DE DESARROLLO SOSTENIBLE (ODS) El objetivo es afrontar el reto 13, 15 y 6 de los ODS de Naciones Unidas para innovar en la adopción de medidas urgentes para combatir el cambio climático y sus efectos, así como proteger, restablecer y promover el uso sostenible de los ecosistemas terrestres, gestionar sosteniblemente los bosques, luchar contra la desertificación, detener e invertir la degradación de las tierras y detener la pérdida de biodiversidad. Además, está la necesidad de garantizar la disponibilidad de agua y su gestión sostenible y el saneamiento de cara a la lucha contra el cambio climático. Prevention of forest fires and protection of biodiversity: the main topics of the second side event of the CILIFO Project in the #EUGreenWeek

01.10.2020. Organised by the European Commission, the EU Green Week (#EUGreenWeek) will focus this year on Nature and Biodiversity. Finnova Foundation, one of the beneficiaries of the INTERREG-CILIFO Project, has organised a side event in order to take part of a week that will set a milestone towards the Conferences of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Biodiversity. On Monday, 28 September 2020, the Iberian Centre for Research and Forest Firefighting (CILIFO) has held the second side event for the CILIFO Project in the framework of the #EUGreenWeek in collaboration with GoHub, the open innovation hub of Global Omnium. The person charged of the opening of the event was Juan Sánchez Ruiz, director of the Regional Operational Centre (INFOCA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development (Regional Government of Andalusia). He emphasized the importance of the reinforcement of infrastructures jointly used for fighting against forest fires. In this second event of CILIFO during the EU Green Week, the vice-president of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and Member of the European Parliament, César Luena, participated talking about the project that is going to be submitted to the European Commission to combat forest fires and preserve biodiversity. Among the measures, Luena talked about the post-fire recovery of the affected areas, the protection of freshwater ecosystems —such as restoring rivers—, the regulation of waters in order to avoid ecological disaster, the legal protection of soils, a specific plan for desertification and a European forest policy. His aim is to create a joint action plan for fighting against climate change and biodiversity. In the first part of the event about prevention, extinction of forest fires and protection of biodiversity, Ana Lourido from the academic domain (University of Ébora) gave her insight about research and combating forest fires. ‘We have an opportunity to make a qualitative and quantitative leap in the fight against forest fires in order to progress in research.’ Afterwards, Javier Madrigal Olmo, senior scientist of the forest fire lab at the Forest Research Center of INIA spoke about the vulnerability face to forest fires and how science and technology can help prevention. As for Javier Cañas Andreu, director of Innovation Projects at EIT Climate-KIC, pointed that the increase of temperatures, the low rate of rain and the subsequent droughts are some of the causes of forest fires in Andalusia. The topic of the second part of the event was funding and entrepreneurship. María Gil Cabrera¸ director of GoHub Andalucía, and Juan Viesca, EU Funds director de at Finnova Foundation, talked about financing at the European Union and innovative projects in the forest fire sector. It is worth highlighting that the European Green Deal call is now open for fighting against climate change and making Europe climatically neutral by 2050. Adrián Noheda, director of CILIFO’s Firefighting Open Innovation Lab, and David Páez Rodríguez, director de Business Development at the Technological Corporation of Andalusia, spoke about the opportunities for entrepreneurship at protected forest areas. The event closed with the intervention of Alejandro García Hernández, deputy director of COR, from the INFOCA Plan (Directorate General for Environmental Management and Protected Areas of the Regional Government of Andalusia), who presented the project FIREPOCTEP. On the other hand, Gustavo Viera Ruiz from GESPLAN talked about the success cases on forest fire management. COMMON CHALLENGES – SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs) The aim is to address the SDGs 6, 13 and 15 of the UN in order to innovate in the adoption of urgent measures to combat climate change and its effects, as well as to protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, fight against desertification, stop and invert the degradation of soils and stop the biodiversity loss. In addition, the availability and sustainable management of water needs to be guaranteed for fighting climate change.
