CILIFO launches, through the Finnova Foundation, an Accelerathon on prevention and fighting of forest fires, and the post-fire recovery of affected habitats within the Euroregion Alentejo-Algarve-Andalucía

This Accelerathon will be introduced during a webinar celebrated next 15thJune 2020. Winners will receive a European acceleration ticket in order to get access to EU funds, internationalize or attract an investment of up to €2 million for a pilot project. 05.06.2020. Finnova Foundation has organised, as a partner of the Iberian Centre for Research and Forest Firefighting (CILIFO by its acronym in Spanish), an Accelerathon on prevention and fighting of forest fires, and the post-fire recovery of burnt areas. This initiative aims to rise a series of innovative challenges in order to employ them in real life for the prevention and fighting of forest fires, and the post-fire recovery of affected areas, using for that purpose EU funds. Additionally, this tool will give visibility to the CILIFO Project and to the activity of cross-border beneficiaries from the Euroregion Alentejo-Algarve-Andalucía. Accelerathon-CILIFO encourages networking and open innovation through its incubation programme Firefighting Open Innovation Lab – CILIFO. CILIFO’s accelerator would bring in innovative solutions to common challenges that could receive Community funds applying for open calls of the LIFE programme on Environment, among other EU programmes. Finnova’s methodology aims to find solutions and funding for projects through an applied, online open innovation system. Its objective is to bind together all the actors from the innovative ecosystem related to environment, a domain in which the European Commission is currently working. In order to accomplish that purpose, there will be training, mentors, a jury and some very special prizes. One of them is that the winner will have the possibility to present its project to an EU open call, such as the LIFE programme, and receive up to €2 million for its project for a period of three years. ACCELERATHON’S GOAL AND CHALLENGE The aim is to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs 13 and 15 of the United Nations through innovation on the adoption of urgent measures in order to combat climate change and its impacts, and protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. The challenges presented are: Prevention of forest fires. Fighting of forest fires. Recovery of habitats after forest fires. The purpose of these challenges is to identify innovative solutions, and attract enterprises, public and private entities, startups and entrepreneurs, so they can define their own environmental challenges concerning the prevention and fighting of forest fires, and the post-fire recovery of affected areas. ACCELERATHON – CILIFO Who is it for? Accelerathon is an innovation competition for entrepreneurs, universities, institutes of technology, business associations, municipalities, industrial parks, SMEs, and public and private entities from all over the world. The only condition is to be engaged with the above-mentioned challenges. Team competition and training During the competition, the different teams will be able to make use of e-learning tools and apply the LIFE methodology. A joint work will be developed in order to achieve optimal solutions. Participants will be offered to enrol in a training session on EU funding. Duration and awards The Accelerathon-CILIFO programme will be held during approximately two weeks, from 17th June (deadline for registration) until 26th June (final round). El Primer Firefighting Open Innovation Lab del sector de incendios forestales y gestión forestal celebra el Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente

05.06.2020. El Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente es la fecha más importante en el calendario oficial de las Naciones Unidas para fomentar la acción ambiental. “Desde 1974, el 5 de junio se ha convertido en una plataforma global de alcance público que reúne a gobiernos, empresas, celebridades y ciudadanos en torno a un asunto ambiental apremiante”, según explican en la web Wold Enviroment Day. El Centro Ibérico para la Investigación y Lucha contra Incendios Forestales (CILIFO) se suma a la celebración de este día que este año gira en torno a la biodiversidad –motivo de preocupación tanto urgente como existencial–. CILIFO está financiado por el Programa de Cooperación Transfronteriza INTERREG V-A España-Portugal (POCTEP) 2014-2020; y, a través de su Firefighting Open Innovation Lab, apoya a las iniciativas de emprendedores y empresas en materia de prevención y lucha contra los incendios forestales. “Eventos recientes, como los incendios forestales sin precedentes en Brasil, California y Australia, la invasión de langostas en el Cuerno de África y ahora la pandemia de COVID-19, demuestran la relación inextricable entre los humanos y las redes de la vida en las que vivimos. La naturaleza nos está enviando un mensaje” (Wold Enviroment Day). El Firefighting Open Innovation Lab de CILIFO ofrece: Un espacio de trabajo para asentarse en el Centro CILIFO, en Sevilla/Huelva (España), donde poder trabajar en red dentro de un Partenariado Público-Privado. La posibilidad de testear tecnologías innovadoras en ambiente real a través de pruebas piloto. Asesoramiento online y presencial, a través de mentores especializados, para la búsqueda de financiación europea, con la finalidad de llevar a mercado los productos, los procesos y los proyectos innovadores. La 15ª edición de la EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) tendrá lugar en Bruselas del 22 al 26 de junio de 2020

La Semana de la Energía Sostenible de la UE (EUSEW) 2020 tendrá lugar en Bruselas del 22 al 26 de junio de 2020, es el mayor evento dedicado a las energías renovables y al uso eficiente de la energía en Europa. Este año, los participantes disfrutarán de una experiencia de evento interactivo online. Entre los puntos más destacados: una conferencia política de tres días que incluirá una sesión de apertura de alto nivel; los Premios EUSEW; actividades de creación de redes y eventos paralelos para los participantes; los Energy Days, eventos digitales que tendrán lugar en toda Europa. Por primera vez, también se organizará un Día Europeo de la Energía para los Jóvenes el 22 de junio. Ayudas a Plataformas Tecnológicas y de Innovación 2020

Ha sido aprobada la convocatoria de tramitación anticipada para el año 2020 para la concesión de ayudas a las Plataformas Tecnológicas y de Innovación, dentro del Programa Estatal de Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación Orientada a los Retos de la Sociedad (en el marco del Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación 2017-2020). El objetivo de esta convocatoria es la creación y consolidación de Plataformas Tecnológicas y de Innovación. OBJETIVOS ESPECÍFICOS Y ACTIVIDADES QUE SE FINANCIAN: Las Plataformas Tecnológicas y de Innovación realizan actividades de fomento y dinamización de la I+D+i, son estructuras de intercambio y comunicación entre los distintos agentes del sistema español de ciencia-tecnología-innovación que impulsan la mejora de la capacidad tecnológica y la competitividad del sector productivo nacional, realizando actividades de intercambio de conocimientos, de planificación y de difusión. Call for Technology and Innovation Platforms 2020

The call for early processing for the year 2020 for the granting of aid to Technology and Innovation Platforms, within the State Programme for Research, Development and Innovation Geared to the Challenges of Society (within the framework of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2017-2020), has been approved. The objective of this call is the creation and consolidation of Technology and Innovation Platforms. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES TO BE FUNDED: The Technology and Innovation Platforms carry out activities to promote and stimulate R&D&I, they are structures for exchange and communication between the different agents in the Spanish science-technology and innovation system that promote the improvement of the technological capacity and competitiveness of the national productive sector, carrying out activities of knowledge exchange, planning and dissemination. The Technology and Innovation Platforms are key structures for the promotion of public-private collaboration and the detection of new demands. Protección forestal, biodiversidad e inteligencia artificial: ¿qué desafíos nos esperan?

Protección forestal, biodiversidad e inteligencia artificial: ¿qué desafíos nos esperan? es un evento que consistirá en un debate sobre los futuros desafíos con respecto a la protección forestal de la Unión Europea y global; así como el uso de inteligencia artificial para contrarrestar la pérdida de biodiversidad y mejorar la sostenibilidad ambiental (#Tech4Forests). 29.05.2020. El Acuerdo Verde Europeo (EU Green Deal) tiene como objetivo hacer de Europa el primer continente neutral en clima del mundo. Los impactos climáticos ya se sienten en toda Europa y es probable que aumenten aún más en intensidad y frecuencia. Sin medidas drásticas de reducción de emisiones, el cambio climático continuo podría aumentar la probabilidad de consecuencias graves, generalizadas e irreversibles, como el colapso de los ecosistemas naturales, la erosión de la seguridad alimentaria mundial o el desplazamiento de personas. Por ello, la Comisión cree importante reunir una amplia gama de puntos de vista de las partes interesadas para la nueva Estrategia a fin de informar el diseño y las opciones de política exploradas, así como el nivel apropiado de ambición.
